A Scenic Designer Says It Like It Is – SAC Theatre Arts

There’s been some interesting sharing from both students and faculty about the fears behind doing what each loves to do… ”what they find passion in”. I want to take this dialogue a bit further. From my perspective, I believe an artist thrives on trying new things, on using both their acquired and innate skills/talents and applying them towards something they have never done before.

An Unconventional Way to Deal with Stage-fright by SAC Theatre Arts

Often, my friends, family, and even people I don’t know ask me, “How can you act in front of people that are just staring at you?” My response is always the same, “I’M BETTER THAN THEM!”

Confused? Allow me to explain. When I first acted in front of people I was so nervous… Sweating all over my body, forgot some of my lines, and eventually succumbed to stage-fright. At the time, I told myself, “I don’t [...]

The Ensemble: We Are Nothing But The Sum of Our Parts (by SAC Theatre Arts)

Imagine you are watching a play, a musical, a movie, or a t.v. show. Now, think of the scene at the train station, or the one on a city street, or in the cafe. I would like you to mentally erase all the people in the background. How bleak do the surroundings look?

The ensemble is it’s own art, they are the backdrop that paints a living picture. This is what the ensemble [...]

In the Shoes of a Doubtful Director by SAC Theatre Arts

Ever since I was little I wanted to be a part of the acting world. For me it started when I watched Wizard of Oz; The second I heard Judy Garland sing I knew I wanted to be just like her. I remember being the shy awkward girl from elementary school to middle school but as soon as I joined drama in high school everything changed for me. When I was in drama, [...]

Dealing with Fear as an Artist

I have been so blessed to work with some amazing artists in my career as a choreographer and dance educator. Recently, I have been reflecting on things I’ve learned through my journey in the arts and here is what I know for sure... Life is hard!!! We are all faced with challenges, big and small, and from these challenges, fears often arise. Fear is something everyone faces in life and fear is often what stops people from truly living their life. Another thing I know for sure - when we act out of fear, our fears come true!

SAC Theatre Arts – Lessons in Confidence, Stage Managing, and Conquering Fear

Taking theatre classes has opened my eyes in so many ways. It has taught me to be more confident, open, and live outside the box. I saw a different light as soon as I took Acting Fundamental here at SAC. I was beyond nervous and scared to death because I didn’t know what to expect. There were times when I just wanted to run out screaming, but I knew that if I gave [...]

The Modern Musical

For me, I grew up around musical theatre. The singing, the dancing… All seemed normal to me. When I was young, I saw it more as entertainment. But, now I see that it has a deeper meaning.  Once you enthrall yourself into enough theatre you may find a show that you can connect with. My show is Stephen Sondheim’s “Company”. Never in my life had I felt more connected to a character, to [...]
